Cornet Konstantin Lakerbay and brother Mikhail

Cornet Konstantin Lakerbay (right) with his brother Mikhail. During World War I, he led the “Abkhazian Hundred”, which was part of the Cherkess Cavalry Regiment, which was part of the Caucasian Native Division, also known as the “Wild Division”. Konstantin Lakerbay studied at the Voronezh Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich Cadet Corps, then enrolled in the Elizavetograd Cavalry School. Young Lakerbay was one of the schools best students, and after graduating in 1913, he was promoted to cornet and enrolled in the 16th Tver Dragoon Regiment. He died on June 15, 1916 at the age of 26 while reconnaissance near the village of Chertovets in Galicia. The heros body was taken to his beloved Abkhazia.
