The Eznasar Church is an Armenian apostolic church of the 9th-10th centuries, located in the village of Yeznasar, Kars Province, approximately 35 km east of the city of Kars.
The original Armenian name of the church is unknown. The construction protocol surrounding the walls of the church, dating from the end of the 9th century, states that the construction of the church was sponsored by the Ishkhan of Hasan Gntuni, who in the annals of the Catholicos of John of Draskhanakert is Smbat I Bagraj Commander of the troops of King Atuni and Kars Kusakal [2]. Since the protocol does not mention Smbat I Bagratun, the view has been put forward that the protocol was written in the early 10th century during the Kars Rebellion and Smbatis temporary departure from power. And in another protocol, which is destroyed today, it is noted that in 1001 the church was renovated by the ruling prince Ashot Pahlavuni.
The deep carved niches decorated with flag-shaped cuvets are the external features of the northern, southern and eastern fronts. On the front of the south door there was a relief depicting the Virgin Mary sitting on the throne, the baby on his left knee, on both sides horsemen resembling angels, who may be the patrons of the church. The Armenian inscription on the southern and eastern walls of the church has been preserved.
The church was married in the first quarter of the 20th century. The dome and the southwest corner collapsed from the 1936 earthquake.
