The photograph depicts Oba Sir Adesoji Tadeniawo Aderemi, Ooni of Ife (ruled September 1930 - July 1980). The traditional ruler is the spiritual leader of the Yoruba people. Today, the Ooni continues to have great religious authority in Yoruba land.. During his trip to Nigeria, Elisofon visited Ife, oldest town of Yoruba people who consider it a holy city & the legendary birthplace of mankind.
