Sackett Hotel and Emporium

The Sackett Hotel, built by Horace David Sackett and Ellen Sackett, was actually constructed in 1888. It was located on the southwest corner of Prospect Avenue (now Hollywood Boulevard) and Cahuenga Boulevard. This three-story wooden building featured a mansard roof and was the first hotel in the area that would later become known as Hollywood.

The hotel had a lobby and parlor facing Prospect Avenue and a mercantile shop facing Cahuenga Boulevard. The second floor housed eighteen rooms and one community bathroom. The Sackett Hotel also hosted the area's first post office, run by the owners' daughter, Mary Sackett.

Despite its initial success, the Sackett Hotel closed in 1905, unable to compete with the nearby Hollywood Hotel. The building was sold to Henry Gillig and remained unoccupied for five years before being sold again in 1910 to J.P. Creque, who demolished it to make way for the Creque Building.
