Train Crash at Montparnasse Station

On Tuesday, October 22, 1895, a passenger train from Granville to Paris crashed at Montparnasse station in Paris. To arrive on time, the engineer Guillaume-Marie Pelerin, who has been working for 19 years, and fireman Victor Garnier increased the speed of the locomotive, which was carrying 131 passengers, to 60 km/h!
The driver failed to brake on the slope, the accelerating train knocked out the waypoint, drove onto the platform of the old Western Railway Station, drove through the entire station, crashed into the front wall (60 cm thick) and crashed onto rue de Rennes from a height of 10 meters.

By the way, the driver Guillaume-Marie Pelerin was sentenced to a two-month suspended prison term, as well as to pay a fine of 50 francs to the relatives of the deceased.
The train chief was sentenced to a fine of 25 francs.
