Half plate daguerreotype

circa 1855

This gently-tinted half plate daguerreotype was taken by William Johnson, who established himself in India in the 1840s, whilst also serving as a Clerk in the Bombay Civil Service for over a decade. He operated a studio in Grant Road for a few years in the 1850s. These fellows aren't identified, but whoever tinted their plate did beautifully. Image courtesy of the Art Institute of Chicago.
