Nikola Tesla AGE 23

1879

At the age of 23, Nikola Tesla was beginning to lay the groundwork for what would become one of the most remarkable careers in science and invention. Born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan (now part of Croatia), Tesla had already shown a strong aptitude for mathematics and engineering from a young age. By 1879, at the age of 23, he was studying electrical engineering at the Technical University of Graz, Austria. However, his time there was marked by personal challenges, including his intense focus on his studies, which sometimes led to conflicts with professors and a lack of financial stability.

During this period, Tesla's fascination with electricity was taking shape. He began to develop ideas that would later revolutionize the field of electrical engineering. At the age of 23, Tesla was still in the early stages of his career, but he was already forming the vision that would drive much of his later work, including his groundbreaking developments in alternating current (AC) power systems.

In 1879, Tesla was living in Europe, studying and working in various capacities, including a brief stint at the Central Telegraph Office in Budapest. It was around this time that he started to develop his foundational understanding of electromagnetism, an area that would become the cornerstone of his future inventions.

Though Tesla’s name was not yet widely known in 1879, the ideas he was beginning to formulate would later lead to some of his most famous inventions, such as the induction motor and the Tesla coil. His intense curiosity and relentless work ethic would soon propel him into a career that would forever change the course of electrical engineering and technology. At the age of 23, Tesla was at a crucial point in his life where the seeds of his genius were starting to take root.
