It was built in 1840. In 1897 the church became an episcopal residence.
It was one of 49 Armenian churches in Samsun Province. Next to the church was the Nersesyan Armenian College, built in 1883, where 298 students studied until 1914.
School magazine was published at the college.
In 1881 an Armenian theater was built in the same district.
The church was damaged during the bombing of Samsun Harbor from May 31 to June 7, 1922. Then in 1936 it was demolished by the Turkish government and the Islamic Imam Hatip Secondary School was built in its place.
