Sigmund Freud(1856–1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. Born in what is now the Czech Republic, Freud spent much of his career in Vienna, where he developed his groundbreaking theories on the unconscious mind, repression, and the role of early childhood experiences in shaping personality. His most famous concepts include the id, ego, and superego, as well as the Oedipus complex. Despite facing significant controversy and criticism during his lifetime, Freud's ideas deeply influenced psychology, psychiatry, literature, and popular culture. He spent his final years in London after fleeing Nazi persecution in Austria.
