Soldier Holds Giant Centipede in Vietnam

1967

1967, Vietnam, an American soldier holds Scolopendra subspinipes, a species of giant centipede found across Asia.
The centipede usually preys on insects, such as spiders and scorpions, but can overpower small mammals or reptiles. It uses its venomous jaws and legs to immobilize its prey until the fast-acting poison takes effect. The body of a centipede is reddish-brown and can reach a maximum length of 30 cm.
In the photo, a centipede is hanging from a fishing line and is closer to the camera than a nearby soldier who isnt actually touching the venomous centipede.
