Discovering Fuencaliente de La Palma
Nestled in the southern part of La Palma, Fuencaliente de La Palma, meaning "hot spring," is a mesmerizing blend of history and nature. The village of Los Canarios, the heart of this enchanting place, has been a beacon for its residents since 1837. This picturesque municipality boasts a population of 1,798 and covers 56.42 km², revealing an intimate connection with its breathtaking landscape.
Before the Spanish arrived in the 15th century, the history of Fuencaliente de La Palma was woven by the Guanches, known as Ahenguareme. The landscape is dominated by the majestic Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge, home to the Teneguía volcano, which last erupted in 1971, adding to the island's charm. Fuelled by rich, fertile soil, the land cultivates delicious grapes and fragrant bananas, producing 2 million liters of malvasia wine each year.
