Osman Nuri Pasha (1832–1900) was a prominent Ottoman military officer and statesman who played a key role in the military and political history of the Ottoman Empire during the 19th century. Known for his skills in battle and leadership, Osman Nuri Pasha is particularly remembered for his involvement in several important campaigns and his leadership during times of conflict, especially in the late Ottoman Empire.

Born in 1832 in Istanbul, Osman Nuri Pasha rose through the ranks of the Ottoman military, beginning his career in the army at a young age. He quickly gained a reputation for his military expertise and organizational skills. His leadership was tested in various wars, and he earned the rank of Pasha, a high title in the Ottoman military, which signified his status and accomplishments.

One of his most notable achievements was his role in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Osman Nuri Pasha was stationed in the defense of the Ottoman fortress of Plevna (now in Bulgaria), where he led Ottoman forces against the Russian army. Despite being surrounded and under siege for months, Osman Nuri Pasha displayed remarkable resilience and leadership, holding off the Russian forces for an extended period. The Siege of Plevna became a symbol of Ottoman resistance, although eventually, the fortress fell to the Russian forces. Nevertheless, his efforts earned him recognition and respect as a capable military commander.

Throughout his career, Osman Nuri Pasha also held several important administrative roles, including serving as the governor of various provinces of the Ottoman Empire. He was known for his efforts to maintain order and stability in the territories under his command, often navigating the challenges of both internal unrest and external threats. His work as an administrator was marked by attempts to modernize the military and infrastructure in the regions he oversaw.

As the Ottoman Empire continued to face internal challenges and external pressures, especially from European powers, Osman Nuri Pasha remained a loyal servant to the empire. In his later years, he retired from active military service, but he continued to be involved in various public roles and political affairs until his death in 1900.
