Dildylian Family Celebrating Armenian Christmas
Dildylian and Lord Yarutyunyans families prepare to celebrate Armenian Christmas on January 6, 1916.
Aram Dildylian (back row, right) and his brother Tsolak founded a photography company in the Ottoman Empire.
They practiced their craft for nearly a century before the Armenian Genocide. In an effort to survive, Aram and his family converted to Islam and adopted into Turkish civilization, while making an effort to save anyone they could from deportation and massacre.
The family emigrated from Turkey in 1922, leaving first for Greece, then moving and settling in the United States.
The photo and the story behind it were transmitted by Armen T. Masrobyan is the great-nephew of Tsolag and Aram Dildylian. He wrote about this in 2015 in the article “The untold story of the survival of Armenians”.
