Culcheth Carnival

1910

Captured in all its Edwardian splendour, this delightful photograph from 1910 shows the Culcheth Carnival in full swing. The streets are alive with children dressed in their Sunday best—white frocks, sailor suits, bonnets and wide-brimmed hats—as they gather for what appears to be a grand village parade.

Behind the smiling faces, banners flutter and brass bands lead processions of villagers in a display of local pride and community spirit. Events like this were a key part of rural life in early 20th-century England, bringing neighbours together for music, games, and celebration.

The handwritten label “CULCHETH (3)” suggests that this may have been one of several organised groups taking part in the festivities.
