Postmortem: Bismarck en su lecho de muerte

Otto von Bismarck (1815–1898) was a German statesman and diplomat who played a key role in the unification of Germany and served as its first Chancellor from 1871 to 1890. Known as the "Iron Chancellor," he was a master of realpolitik, using diplomacy, military strategy, and alliances to strengthen Prussia and create the German Empire.

Bismarck orchestrated a series of wars—against Denmark, Austria, and France—that ultimately led to German unification under Prussian leadership. Once in power, he focused on maintaining stability through a complex system of alliances while suppressing socialist and Catholic opposition domestically.

Despite his success in consolidating German power, Bismarck was dismissed by Emperor Wilhelm II in 1890. His policies, including his diplomatic balancing act in Europe, had a lasting impact on world history, shaping Germany’s role in international affairs well into the 20th century.
