Ichmen was an important mixed village on the Kharberd-Balu road. In the Ottoman census of 1834, it was recorded that 468 Armenian men lived in 100 smokes in the village. I did not find any Muslim records in this census. In the 1840 census, 441 Armenian men were recorded in 120 smokes. According to the Armenian census of 1878, 1,121 Armenians and 422 Turks lived in 160 villages. While Eprikian left the Turkish population stable at 422, the Armenian population was 1004. In the 1894 Annals of the province of Mamuret-ul Aziz, the population shows 1038 Armenian (569 male and 469 female) and 398 Muslim (210 male and 188 female) inhabitants, 284 smoke. Because women are undercounted, the actual Armenian population should probably be more than 1,100 people, and the Muslim population more than 400 people. As a result of the Hamidiye massacres, the Armenian population decreased significantly and before the Genocide, only 589 Armenians lived in 60 smokes in the village.
