Vladimir Ulyanov with his sister Olga
Vladimir Ulyanov, later known as Lenin, was born in 1870 in Simbirsk (now Ulyanovsk, Russia). At the age of four, in 1874, he was a bright and curious child growing up in a well-educated and relatively comfortable household. His older sister, Olga, was an important presence in his early years, and the Ulyanov children were raised in an environment that valued learning and discipline.
At that time, their family was still living in Simbirsk, where their father, Ilya Ulyanov, worked as an educator and government official.
