At the unveiling of the statue of Frederick Richard Chichester

At the unveiling of the statue of Frederick Richard Chichester the (Earl of Belfast) in College Square, Belfast. 1st November 1855. Twenty years later the statue was removed and replaced by a statue of Dr Henry Cooke. It was taken to the Town Hall, Victoria Street and in 1906 removed to the City Hall where it still stands inside the building. In the background you can see the front of the houses on College Square North. This is one of the earliest surviving photographic images taken in Belfast (National Museums Northern Ireland)
