Opening of Moulin Rouge
MOULIN ROUGE ON OLD POSTERS AND POSTCARDS
On October 6, 1889, to coincide with the opening of the World Exhibition in Paris and the completion of the Eiffel Tower, Joseph Oller and his partner Charles Zidler invited Parisians to the opening of the new Moulin Rouge cabaret on Place Blanche. Trying to expand the boundaries of Montmartres entertainment district, Oller deliberately chose a location for his cabaret away from Place Pigalle and Boulevard Rochechouart, where another cabaret, Elisée Montmartre, was flourishing at the time.
