Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893) was a Russian composer of the Romantic era, known for his expressive and emotional music. Born in Votkinsk, Russia, Tchaikovsky showed early musical talent and was trained at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. His compositions are celebrated for their melodic richness and emotional depth, blending Russian folk elements with Western European traditions.

Tchaikovsky's most famous works include ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty, as well as symphonies, concertos, and operas. His 1812 Overture and Piano Concerto No. 1 are also widely recognized. His music often explored themes of passion, tragedy, and beauty, which resonated deeply with audiences of the time.

Despite his success, Tchaikovsky struggled with personal challenges, including his sexuality, which caused him emotional turmoil. His life was also marked by periods of depression and financial instability. Tchaikovsky’s music continues to be some of the most popular and frequently performed in the classical repertoire. He died in 1893, just days after the premiere of his Symphony No. 6, "Pathétique," a work that is often seen as his musical farewell.
