Saved the Circus Elephants
The Children Who Saved the Circus Elephants (Hartford Circus Fire, 1944) July 6, 1944 — the Ringling Bros. circus tent in Hartford, Connecticut caught fire. 167 people died, but 5 children (ages 8–12) ran to the elephant area and opened the cages. The elephants were terrified, but the kids led them out one by one, holding their trunks like hands.
