Enola Gay Crew after Bombing Hiroshima

The Enola Gay crew is an American military team that carried out the historic mission of bombing the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War II. It is named after pilot Paul Tibbetzs mother, who was named Enola Gay. The teams chief pilot, Enola Gay, was Paul Tibbetz (center) and included 11 other crew members. The crews mission was to drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, a Japanese city that was chosen for this purpose as a strategic target due to its military importance and the lack of a large population on earth. On August 6, 1945, Enola Gays plane under the command of Paul Tibbets made its historic flight. The time to set up the bomb, called Little Boy, was set at 8:15 a.m. At this time, scorer Robert Lewis crossed the scope and fired a bomb. The explosion destroyed Hiroshima and killed about 140,000 people. The mission is considered one of the key events of World War II, which led to Japans surrender and the end of the war.
