1904

Around 1904, **Pablo Picasso** was living in **Paris**, having moved there from his native Spain in 1900. His youth in Paris marked a crucial period in his artistic development, as he was exposed to new influences, ideas, and artistic movements that would shape his work for the rest of his life.

Picasso first arrived in Paris at the age of 19, during a time when the city was a hub for artists, intellectuals, and writers. He lived in various districts of Paris, including the **Montmartre** area, which was home to many bohemian artists and creators. It was here that he started to immerse himself in the avant-garde scene, meeting other artists like **Henri Toulouse-Lautrec**, **Amedeo Modigliani**, and **Georges Braque**. Despite his youth, Picasso was already gaining recognition for his unique style and raw talent.

By 1904, Picasso had begun to transition from his **Blue Period** (which was characterized by melancholic, blue-toned works reflecting themes of poverty, isolation, and human suffering) to what would later be called his **Rose Period**. This shift in style marked a move towards brighter colors and a more optimistic mood, with influences from the circus and theatrical performances that Picasso had encountered in Paris. His work became more vibrant, incorporating warmer tones like pinks, oranges, and reds, and often depicted acrobats, harlequins, and other figures associated with the circus world.

During this time, Picasso was also deeply affected by his personal life. He was living with his muse and lover, **Fernande Olivier**, and their relationship influenced much of his work. The intensity of his personal experiences and emotional turmoil can be seen in the more intimate, expressive qualities of his art from this period.

By 1904, Picasso had truly found his place in the Parisian art world. His works were exhibited in galleries and he began to garner more attention, setting the stage for the future breakthroughs that would solidify his place as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. This period marked a pivotal moment in Picasso's development, where he began to refine his unique style and move toward the innovative, revolutionary works that would define his later career, including **Cubism** and his exploration of abstraction.
