Padaung women as 'giraffe women' in a circus show

1935

The Kayan Lahvi people, also known as the Padaung, are an ethnic group that inhabits Myanmar and Thailand.
Padaung women are known for wearing brass neck rings that are worn around the neck and lengthened it.
The photos were taken in 1935 when a group of Padaung women were visiting London attractions.
Circuses and shows were extremely popular in the United Kingdom in the 1930s, and these women, advertised as “giraffe women,” were the stars of the shows, drawing huge crowds.
