Karin (Erzurum) US Custodial School for Girls.
On the reverse it is written: “It was built in 1902. It burned down in 1904. Reconstructed in 1904, it rose 1/2 meter, as shown by the trail of fire on the stones.
Photograph in 1906.”
This elementary school in Karin had 334 pupils between 1903 and 1904.”
The school, church, and hospital opened by American missionaries were not patented. Sultan II. Although Abdul Hamid wanted to control these missionaries, he failed. He only tried to limit their mobility by pursuing a policy of strict control.
