Maghasaberd
Fortress in Shirak province of Mets Hayk Ayrat province, on the western bank of Akhuryan River, on a rock rising to the gorge, 4 km south of Ani city. Bagratunyats is one of the leading guards of the capital. Founded in ancient times, no mention of Vimic has been found from the area. According to Shapuh Bagratuni, at the end of the 6th century it was rebuilt by the Morik Emperor of Byzantium, the Armenian vassal Maghas prince Maghas and named it after him. Maghasaberd was successively one of the military, important strongholds of Kamsarakans, Bagratuni, Zakarian and other fortresses (Tignis, Aghjka Fortress, etc.) and was part of a “single-center system” organized to protect Ani from a military point of view. XYII d. Maghasaberd was standing at the bottom. Zacharias the Archangel mentions it as a Persian military base.
