Longchamp racecourse
Vintage Edwardian era scene which captures a fashionable moment at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris, circa 1911. Spectating at the races was a glamorous event and a major social occasion for the Parisian elite in the early 20th century. The event at the Hippodrome de Longchamp was a key place to see and be seen, effectively serving as an early form of fashion week. The woman in the foreground is wearing a dress with a narrow hem, a style known as a “hobble skirt” which was a short-lived trend that impeded stride.
